Leather Retreat

An annual gathering of the leather community

Est. 1996 - Archive 2019

Past presenters

Across its 20-plus year run, Leather Retreat hosted dozens of leather educators, kink writers, M/s practitioners, and community elders. The names below are drawn from publicly archived class catalogs and program books.

A note on this list. We list presenter names because they appeared on publicly archived program pages. We do not include photos, contact information, or biographical claims beyond what was published at the time. If you are listed and would like a correction or removal, please contact us and we will respond promptly.

Presenters from the public archive

Earlier years of the retreat featured additional regional presenters whose names we have not reproduced here in the absence of clean archival sources. If you have program books or class lists from the late 1990s or early 2000s that you'd like added, the contact page is the way.

What presenters offered

The retreat's curriculum was shaped by the people on the front of the room. Some were nationally known authors and educators; others were regional teachers and experienced community members. What they had in common was the willingness to teach in a setting where their students were also their peers - where someone who took your rope class on Saturday afternoon might be cooking breakfast next to you on Sunday morning.

That format - teacher and student in the same camp, on the same chore list, eating the same meals - is part of what made the retreat distinctive, and part of what makes it worth remembering.

The leather and D/s communities have a long, deep tradition of mentorship and protege relationships. If you're working on that side of things and want simple shared tools for tracking practice, rituals, or daily check-ins between mentor and student, SubTasks is one option built with this kind of relationship in mind.
